IATA stands for: International Air Transport Association. It is a trade association of airline companies which operates international services and establishes standard practices.

IATA accredits throughout the world. This certification includes issuance of an ID-code, termed an IATA number.

IATA numbers are used as the identifier in reservations to allow suppliers, including , to pay their commissions.

The association consists of around 265 airlines, primarily major carriers, representing 117 countries. Based in Montreal, Canada with executive offices in Geneva Switzerland.
